Like a book, an ASN document is strictly a top-down hierarchy, in that each parent (a level that contains lower levels) may have many children (a level that has levels above it), but each child may have only one parent. Many levels of depth are supported, so that each child – regardless of its position in the hierarchy – may in turn be the parent of many children of its own.
